What is a
storyboard?

A storyboard is a visual representation of a moving image

How are they made?

There  is no one way for a storyboard to be made. There are several different platforms to storyboard  on including:

-Drawn

-Storyboarder

-Photoshop sketch

What method do people in the industry use and why?

Artists who are very skilled are used in the industry to draw storyboards so the visual representation can be clear and understood by everyone above and below the line.

What is the purpose of a storyboard?

Storyboards are a quick and simple way to get ideas down on paper.

They aid the cast and crew in imagining what the film will look like and make filming an easier process.

What is the difference between linear and non-linear storyboards?

linear is in chronological order but non-linear is in non-chronological order.

SHOT TYPE/ANGLE/CAMERA MOVEMENT AND DESCRIPTION
Here is a tutorial for storyboarder. It is simple and easy to use. There are templates of people so difficult images don't have to be drawn but a setback is there is no pre-generated images of objects or backgrounds. This makes it difficult as you have to draw these on and they may not be recognisable to the production team.

On the right is an example of a drawn storyboard. They take quite a while to do depending on how much detail you put into them but they can be difficult if you aren't a natural artist. I think my drawings and cinematography is in good detail but I should have developed my sound.
On the left is an example of a photoshop sketch storyboard. This is my favourite way of storyboarding as it is easy and simple if you know photoshop well. They may take a while to make as you need pictures to make the sketches from. I think my storyboard of this is really detailed but I, again, could have developed the sound.

WHY ARE STORYBOARDS SO IMPORTANT?

>Storyboards are very important to pre-production. They allow easy and efficient filming and editing for the cast and crew. They allow the crew members to know where they need to be and when at all times. Without this the production could fall behind schedule which would have a negative impact on finance and budget, especially in low budget films.
